Why so serious, Kevin?
Because he's paddling ever so stealthily in order to get close to the pelicans.
We paddled into the very shallow end of the lake...I'm talking just a few inches deep...to get close to these birds. Surprisingly, none of the pelicans flew off.
We never knew though, they had black feathers on their wings.
He was keeping company with the big boys.
Kevin finds it so relaxing to observe everything around him when we're out on the water.

Djoudj National Bird Park, located about 1 hr from St Louis, Senegal, is the migrant home of hundreds of thousands of birds. I've been there 2 or 3 times, touring the waters with a guide (Pape Dieye once) in a 'dug out' canoe. An entire island covered in pelicans of all ages (and their feces). Perhaps we'll take you there when you visit us in SN.
I spy a new Facebook profile picture for Kevin!
I believe the other bird is a blue heron
