Playing Britt's newly constructed Snake Toss game

Kaylin singing "Into My Heart"

Krystin eating grapes after she quotes from "Stanley the Stink Bug" DVD
Ok, now that you've had an intro posting (see previous post) on our Idaho vacation, just wanted to add a few highlights:

Grandma was giving some personal attention to Krystin; and Kaylin, having been buddies with Grandma all week, felt threatened and wanted to be included in the one-on-one time I was having with Krystin. I explained to Kaylin that right now I was hugging Krystin and that she would be next after we were done. She didn't like that and proceded to wail...she curled up on top of the speaker and cried while she waited for her one-on-one time with Grandma.

As you can see, Kaylin did get her time with Grandma, as promised.

Then more attention, just to make sure she felt secure again.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch....

Britt has signed up to volunteer at a small ranch whose purpose is to restore broken horses and broken children. Here she is with Mike, the owner.

Britt is teaching Kaylin how to hold her hand to feed a horse. A bit terrifying for a little girl.

Here, Ethan is learning....

In the mountains of Idaho (this is out of sequence, but added this photo as an afterthought...love the background)

I found that I'd accidentally omitted this photo of Ethan and Kaylin at swimming lessons. You can understand why I had to add it..... ;o)

The reason for our vacation in Idaho....

Ethan....6

Kaylin...4

Krystin....2

And of course...the whole family, including Mom and Dad
This is up in the mountains

But going back to the beginning......

A very warm and enthusiastic welcome at the airport

Kevin, Dan, Britt playing...Settlers. It was a quick game. Kevin explained that he and Britt just couldn't get anything and that the "robber" kept them from getting any cards. Guess who won.

Ethan is in his element when playing any game of strategy. Very smart boy.

Britt's birthday was coming up in a couple of days, so Gpa, the elementary art teacher, helped them make something for Mom.

Ta-dah!!!!

Gpa tended to have a little person hanging on him quite a lot.

Some needed Mom-and-Ethan time alone.

Dad doesn't come home to a quiet house...but he does come home to a lot of love and laughter.

Ethan helped Grandpa construct Mom's birthday gift: a Snake Toss game. Kaylin helped put on the blue tape for scoring,.

One afternoon we went to the splash pad. Tons of fun!
This was Krystin's favorite spot...she'd go round and round in circles with her cup. Kaylin on the other hand, ran from one spot to the other. It was one big fun adventure.

In the fountain circle

Mom (Britt) and Grandpa (Kevin) took Kaylin to stand under the buckets that tip when filled with water...here they are waiting for the dumping...with Kaylin strongly protesting.

And you can see her strong reaction of displeasure to the whole ordeal. (But she told her mom how brave she was.)

Britt relaxing in the sun, watching her brood running around

Ethan warming up in a dry towel.

On Father's Day we drove up into the mountains and headed for Idaho City (not really a city, more like an old western town)

Three little ones attached themselves to Grandpa

Who gets to hold Grandpa's hands? He's only got two.

East meets Midwest....

My sister, Deb came to visit family this week...staying with each of her Iowa sisters for 1-2 days and is currently visiting Mom and Maynard. What a wonderful time for all of us. Thank you, Deb for making the effort to come see us. You're so faithful.

We enjoyed homemade blueberry muffins...but the best part was pulling out the cups and saucers and a single dinner plate from Grandma Rachel's wedding china, and sipping hot flavored coffee from those delicate cups.

It tastes so much sweeter from Grandma's cups. Felt like we were having a girls' tea party.

This was supper cooking on the grill...although the red peppers look orange in this photo. Supper included the peppers, sliced yams, fresh green beans almondine, corn-on-the-cob (not good. Must not have been Iowa corn as it's too early in the season), bacon-wrapped sirloin steaks. Good old Iowa meal. (you see only 2 steaks on the grill...that's because Deb wanted hers med rare)

Then Deb and I took floral photos...

This is the underside of the pink columbine pictured further down.

Grandma Widmer's Siberian iris...generations of it passed on to descendants and friends of descendants. The sharing continues...

This is the columbine as we see it. The real beauty is hidden underneath and one has to look for it. It made me ponder how this is a spiritual picture....I think sometimes we, as believers hide our glory, the real beauty that God wants to reflect in us to the world. But we lose confidence, and fears and doubts creep in at times and we choose once again, to believe in self and to take the control back. The real beauty cowers until we choose to once again believe that with God nothing is impossible...and we choose to let Him be reflected in us and get ourselves out of the way. I don't want to be a columbine, but it happens sometimes...all too often.

Deb and I found this bleeding heart on our walk. We'd never seen this hybrid before.

Of course, Kevin drove by on his way home from work as we were taking pics of a neighbor's flowers. Silly boy :o)
