"It's the right side of the moon" to cut hair, says Mom. As her mom before her, she says you're supposed to cut your hair on the dark side of the moon (or is it the light side) and the hair grows slower, thus your haircut lasts longer. Same with planting vegetables. You're supposed to plant the root vegetables on the dark side of the moon and the veggies that grow above the ground are supposed to be planted on the light side of the moon. (Must have something to do with magnetic pull of the moon. Truly, it has nothing to do with superstition.) Mom said Grandma always had a good garden.

A work in progress...be patient...

Ta dah!!!! Oh, the wonders of root booster and...

...pomade, and hairspray. This is a hairstyle that is managable for Mom. Quick and easy.

Good to go for another 6 to 8 weeks.
Mom (Grandma) and Maynard came to visit us today. Since Maynard's birthday is this month, we chose to celebrate at Red Lobster.

Kevin selected the Sailor's Platter (shrimp scampi, cod, garlic mashed potatoes). I had my favorite....the Lobster Pizza (topped with fresh sweet basil, tomato, lobster pieces, then fresh lemon dripped on top of it all. Then the mozzerella cheese. No tomato sauce. Did you get that, Trey and Kari?)

Mom with her plate of shrimp alfredo. (Please notice that her bread plate is empty. She loves the biscuits. How many refills did they bring us of the biscuit baskets, Mom?)

Maynard picked the Tilapia in a Bag. Steamed veggies came with the fish.

Oh, deer me....

The deer trail is between our and the neighbor's yard. Saw these out our front window Thursday afternoon. They're just out for a walk I suppose. Notice the bald spot on the shoulder of the deer on the left.

In our back yard...

Maynard looked out our window into the back yard and was counting all the deer ....we all came running to look. I got a video clip, but sorry...don't know how to post those yet. Think there were 20 deer that came into the yard this side of the tree line. There were 3 bucks (button buck, a 6 point, and an 8 point). Was pretty exciting....very unusual.

This is Iowa....changing weather...but never boring.
We've had freezing rain, mixed with some snow since Friday late afternoon. Friday evening was thunder, some lightning, freezing rain, sleet, snow, and lots of wind. We had everything but sunshine. Some people were without electricity for varying periods of time....Mom and Maynard (in southeast Iowa) were without power for 4 hrs yesterday. We had some flickering of lights and some loss of cable signals. But we were warm and not without food. It's nice to be inside where it's warm and cozy. The only thing lacking would be a fireplace.
Our "church" this morning was going to be Dr David Jeremiah (Turning Point) at 7:00 and then Charles Stanley (In Touch Ministry) at 8:00, but our cable is out for those stations. (I'm hopeful that we can see David Jeremiah as I believe he is on again at 12:00 on Fox network.) and can probably catch Charles Stanley on the net.

Here's our mailbox Saturday afternoon. And the mail came through sleet, rain, and snow. Huh! Guess they mean it.

Our driveway and sidewalk...

Sunday morning...notice how the rain froze slowly in sheets from the eaves.

Kevin assessing....yep, better go out and blow out the driveway. Looks awful wet and heavy.

As you can see, the blower didn't really "blow" the snow. It more or less just spat it out.

Had to hand shovel where the city plows came through. It's about 34 or 35 degrees out.

Then Kevin went across the street to help the neighbor. He came back into the house sweating.
I think we're supposed to get more snow today....and through Tuesday.

My husband is so wonderful! I've been wanting to post this picture of my dear friend, Nancy and me, but because of publishing laws, I couldn't post it with the face of an unidentified man who was sitting in the booth behind us. But Kevin figured out how to blur him out. So...here's a long overdue photo....

SUPER BOWL SUNDAY in AMERICA!!!!
Bears vs Colts (I think)

And here are pictures of Kevin and me celebrating Super Bowl Sunday. We are way excited... not because we love football....but because we are not watching the Super Bowl and we are not going to a super bowl party (everyone knows not to invite us because we aren't avid football fans) and because we're not hosting a super bowl party. Hey, we are the party!!!
